Phesant Inn, Casterton – Kirkby Lonsdale

Pheasant Inn, Casterton, Carnforth LA6 2RX

Staying – 25th to 28th June 2019

It was a very hot few days when we visited the Pheasant Inn, we booked it as it was near enough to the lakes to be a relaxing break but not with the lakes pricing attached to the hotel and a bit out of the way which is what we enjoy – We were not disappointed, we had a lovely relaxing break in a very friendly Inn/bed and breakfast/coaching house (don’t really know how best to refer to the Pheasant Inn).

We were allocated a double room, four poster bed with en-suite. This had an old-style four poster bed and a view out on to the village. The room had en-suite facilities with bath, ‘Out of Eden’ toiletries and fresh white fluffy towels. Personally we would have preferred a shower, as being quite pregnant at this point – getting in and out of the bath wasn’t an easy task. The room had tea and coffee items in the room and a cheeky few biscuits. I should add you can choose your choice of room online (this wasn’t available when we booked, but is now).

The Inn had a lovely atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and the food delicious. Our stay compromised of breakfast and evening meal included on one night. The breakfast was a selection of fruit juices, cereal, fruit and yoghurt to help yourself too and the a menu for you to choose a hot choice eg full English, eggs, smoked salmon, porridge etc. All food was freshly cooked and we didn’t have any complaints – only praise. The evening meals for us consisted of 3 courses, it would have been rude not to. You could choose from approx 9 choices for each course – choosing from starters consisting of soup, terrine, salad, smoked salmon. For main a selection compromising of steak and ale pie, Mussels, rib eye steak, lasagne, not forgetting seafood pancakes. And for dessert cheesecake, bread and butter pudding or eton mess. There was something for everyone and for everyone’s taste. The menu changes seasonally and is produced using the best of local produce. You can enjoy a meal in either the bar area or the dining room.

We were lucky with the weather when we visited and we were able to enjoy the lovely beer garden which overlooked the fields full of sheep, it was a perfect location for a quiet drink on an evening. The bar inside consisted of a comfortable lounge with an open fire, where you could enjoy either a quiet space to read a book or newspaper or just watch the world go by. The bars itself had a selection of locally brewed cask ales. Bedrooms look out over fields or over the village and to the fell. Private car parking is to the rear of the building. A short distance from the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, is the Lakes and the Dales and the Forest of Bowland, so perfect for exploring and doing whatever activities you wish.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 stars online I feel this is a true reflection of the Inn.
